General information |
|
Kazakhstan is located deep
in the Eurasian continent. Its area is 2 724 900 square.
km (1 049 150 sq. km. miles).
This - the second largest country in the CIS and the
ninth in the world, after Russia, China, USA, Argentina,
Brazil, Canada, India and Australia. On its territory,
Kazakhstan is more than twelve countries of the European
Union! Borders
Kazakhstan to China, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan,
Uzbekistan and Russia. The total length of border - 12
187 km.
Kazakhstan stretches more than 3 000 km (two time zones)
from the Lower Volga in the west to the foothills of the
Altai Mountains in the East, nearly 2000 km from the
western Siberian lowland in the north to the Kyzyl-Kum
desert in the south.
The remoteness of the country from oceans and vastness
of its territory determine climatic conditions and
Kazakhstan. The climate is sharply continental with
average temperatures in January between - 19 ... -4 ° C
and in July between +19 ... +26 ° C. In winter,
temperatures can drop to - 45 ° C, and in summer up to
+30 ° C.
Population - 15 million (01.01.2005).
Capital - Astana (since December 10, 1997) with a
population of 528 000 people.
Administratively Kazakhstan is divided into 14 regions,
84 cities, 159 districts, 241 city and 2 042 village.
Kazakh language adopted as a state. Also widely used in
Russian.
Kazakh currency - tenge, which is 100 tyyn (1993).
The climate of Kazakhstan is sharply continental. The
continental climate is manifested in a number of
features. These include: large amplitude between winter
and summer temperatures, dry air, little rainfall in
most parts of the republic, the long harsh winters and
short summers in the north and shorter winters and hot
summers in the south.
Kazakhstan is located in 4 climatic zones:
forest-steppe, steppe, semi-desert and desert.
Sharp-continental climate with cold, snowy winters and
hot summers prevails in many parts of Kazakhstan. For
example, in the capital - Astana - winter temperatures
can drop to minus 30-35 degrees Celsius, while in summer
the temperature rises up to "+" 30-35 degrees Celsius.
The proximity of mountain ridges and lakes often softens
the harshness of the climate. In some areas the weather
can change drastically in a short period of time. |
